Opinion Piece - How I Feel About Pride

Gay pride, a place where every person from around the globe joins to celebrate the LGBT community  and take a positive stance against discrimination and violence toward lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgenders however in recent times, it seems like pride is more about promoting men in neon thongs and bears thrusting their private bits in everyone's faces. 

"It always seemed to me a bit pointless to disapprove of homosexuality. It’s like disapproving of rain.”

London Pride 2015 was all that it was expected to be. The glitter, the glitz and the glamour was all infused into one day. The streets of London was filled with thousands of supporters dancing from left to right, enjoying the day of love and acceptance, however, as everything started to 'pop off', seven male gogo-dancers appeared and started seductively stripping  in front of a whole crowd of people (which included children under the age of twelve) is this what Pride is all about? Surely it isn't. 

Saturday June 28th 1969 was the beginning of it all as, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgenders rioted after a police raid on the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village neighborhood of NYC. This was the beginning of the march and countless people were targeted, attacked and in some instances killed by promoting and embracing who they are and I feel like now, pride is just about advertising your sexuality or wearing the skimpiest outfit to gain some attention and feel apart of the in crowd. 

Whenever pride is near, nobody really ever thinks about the true meaning behind it, only for the drink, the music  and even the drugs. I feel that people should either revert back to the real reason why pride came about or come up with a new meaning and make it mean something. 

Pride is amazing however, everything needs a reason behind it or it becomes meaningless.
